BMW brought the M5 to the USA as '91,'92, and '93 model year cars. BMW continued to sell the M5 in Europe through '95.

In all reality, there are very few '92s. Leftover '91s were being sold and BMW AG was preparing to roll out the 3.8l cars as '93s... although the US continued to get 3/6l cars only. It is believed the new motor would be too expensive to certify, therefore 3.6l cars from '92 were stockpiled to sell as '93s in the US.

There are some of the Euro 3.8s in the US now, brought in privately. The number is somewhere around a dozen or so. Most are '93s, at least two are '95s. Mine is the only '94 that I am aware of.
