If you're considering the 265, you'll need a different driveshaft and shifter, and they're not as strong as the 280. Since you're already looking at buying a rebuilt unit, get a rebuilt 280. Jim Blanton had a falling out with Jim Rowe Metric Mechanic (so I've heard), so he rebuilds trannies on his own, now. I don't know how to contact him, but you can search the internet for info. Metric Mechanic still does the Ultimate Transmission work on the 280. They upgrade the shift forks, synchros, and shifter dogs. I imagine that they also fix the "popping out of gear" problem, too. My 280 is strong and reliable, and I haven't had a problem (YET). When it goes, I'm going to shell out the bucks for the MM or Jim Blanton unit, whichever is the better value.

I'd stay away from the 265. Too many parts to change just to get it to work.
