I don't know if this means anything at all, or even helps, but my shocks are blue, and I still have the self-leveling installed. I put on new rear pads this weekend, and while I was down there, I cleaned everything really good. You will have to take the wheel off to see the blue shock. The only other thing I can recommend is to check the height of the rear of the car, and then have a neighbor or someone come over and sit in the rear of the car. Then have someone else start it for you, and stand beside the car and see if it rises back up

I recently purchased a 1991 M5. I compared the ride with another M5, and mine is noticably rougher. The system is not leaking. I am thinking it may have been replaced, but I can tell. I do have over 100K miles.
