The shimmy could probably be attributed to the lower control arm bushings. Have them checked out. If they need replacent, make sure to replace with the newer style (thicker) arms and have 750i bushings installed.
Re. shocks and springs: Do not use bilsteins with any combination of sport springs up front! Bilsteins will work very well with our stock springs but they will continuously bottom out with shorter sport springs. For the front use Koni adjustables with your choice of springs. In the rear, bilstein sports with sport springs work very well.
Finally, if you really want to improve handling, try upgrading the sway bars. RD makes an application for our car and while I haven't changed mine yet, I understand the improvemnet is significant.
Hope this helps, good luck!

i just replaced my front rotors (91 m5 w/ 50k) but still have some vibration during hard stopping. does this sound like a bushing concern? what happens when your rear brake rotors are warped, what sort of vibration does it make? What half-life do rubber bushings have, everything suspension-wise on this car is original? After eleven years should the font struts be replaced? rear self-leveling? the rear shocks show no leaks and work flawlessly. would a bilstein replacement sport shock kit w/dinan springs improve handling? Thanks
