The 540/6 speed is a nice car, but it's not anything close to an M5!
Drive them back to back and you will immediately understand what I mean.
I bought a '97 e39 540 6 speed (new), was hugely disapointed i with it. Sold it and bought a beautiful '93 e34 M5, the '93 is tighter than the brand new e39 and MUCH more fun to drive.
As far as finding a nice one, take your time, their are nice ones out there, you just need to look.

Hey Guys,
I'm in a dilema. I've been looking fora long time for a M5 but I've noticed that it's hard to find one for a good price and good condition. I've noticed that the 540i/6speed is ported as fast as the M5????? Is that TRUE? and I believe to be a easier car to find.

Opinions accepted by M Users and Non M Users.
