The black paint on these cars can get rain spots fairly easily and in most cases they cannot be removed. My car was in mint shape but had to be left ungaraged for three of the eight years I have owned it.
I could have had the car repainted for anywhere from $1500 to $7000. I spent about $6300 on a complete repaint because I am an M5 nut and will most likely never sell it. This may seem a bit extreme but I have put thousands of dollars into this car with Movit brakes, Dinan suspension, rebuilt engine and many other items and the only thing left was to repaint it to make it look totally new.
If the car was repainted because of damage or complete neglect then this should show up elsewhere such as in the interior or the engine bay. If someone went to the trouble to spend a lot of money to repaint it and it was done right, then I wouldn't worry, but if someone hands you a receipt from MACO for $1100 then they most likley were skimping on not just the paint but other things as well.
Any owner that skimped on the paint, skimped on a lot of other things as well.
Just my two cents worth.
