Hey guys,
Where can I find a complete cooling system for my 91 m5. BMW put in a plastic impeller when it was made, rather than a heat resisting metal impeller. The radiator is f-ed and I am going to have to replace the entire thing, h20 pump, hoses, radiator. I had the engine checked and it is fine, so Im pretty relieved about that.
Any Idea how much and wether or not I can get them from anywhere else besides a dealer? Colorado has only 3 dealers and they all jack you! I want to get my baby back in action. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Ed
M5-best car ever concieved I was unaware BMW ever installed a plastic impellers. When I replaced mine it was a metal impeller. I was only aware the 3 series used plastic impellers for a few years.
In order to prevent the catostrophic water pump failure you must monitor for coolant crud build-up on the back side of the fan/water pump pully. I drilled 2, 1/16" holes in the fan pully so the coolant leak can not pool in the pully and will show as soon as the seal starts to fail. White specks in the area of the fan.
The issue:
The leaking coolant is spin dry in the back of the pully and that is why all is thought to be well when the seal has failed.
Look at the inside of the pully!! if there is dried coolant replace the water pump!!
