As an M5 enthusiast/driver, I would be very leary on this car. If it has been painted... it most probably has been in a SERIOUS accident. Are all the BMW stickers on the car? Does it look like the airbag has been deployed? Does he have the stock wheels? If the owner skimped that greatly on the paint job... what else did he skimp on? There is no telling what kind of maintenance the car has had, (or has not) or who he had doing the work. You say it needed an ABS sensor, and he bought the part? Is he a mechanic?

M5s are truely GREAT cars IF they are well maintained from the start. But, I will warn you to beware of those that are not, it may turn your life into living hell. They are by no means 'cheap' to fix, or even to have looked at.

I suggest to have the car looked over by a mechanic at a BMW dealer, or someone who is knowledgable on BMWs.

For what it worth, hope this helps.

I have been considering this one here up in Canada too. I spent quite some time asking for questions on the board and digging up info. Looks like the engine (compression test), transmissions (notchy or not) and the self-leveling suspensions are the main concerns. Everything else holds up quite well. The oen I am looking at is mint in and out but there is leak in the suspensions and the mechanic feels the trans is too notchy and needs replacement or repair. How much is the one you are looking at anyways? And what colour?
