Hey Dave

The clutch on my 1991 got really stiff after about 70,000 miles even though the clutch disc itself was in good shape. My BMW mechanic told me that my stiff clutch was caused by rods which were beginning to seize from wear and age, sorry I dont remember exactely what he said but it had something to do with shift rods etc . I bought the complete Sachs clutch kit which was 1/2 the price of my dealer. My friendly dealer told me they are the same kit and they installed for me in 3 hours shop time. The clutch is now at least 40% softer now. Remember its always going to be a little stiff which is what you want when playing with 300+ horses but in heavy traffic what a difference !!! I think I heard of 540i clutches burning out early due to a clutch which was too soft.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get the softer clutch, parts and labor?

Dave
