your market assesment on the cars is a little off.. Several years ago back in 1997 was when the value of classic Ferrari's hit rock bottom.. Pristine 250GT LWB california spyders were going for between $400k-$550k and perfect 250GT SWB spyders were in the territory of $750k-$850k... A 250GT SWB california I saw on display that just completed a nut and bolt restoration was appraised at $900k at Miller Motors in CT a few years back..

Regarding whether or not a $1.2MM 250GT SWB california is the best buy is truly debatable.. Historically speaking, the cars never topped that value even in the crazy late 80's..

Kenny:

As I said everything is realtive as these cars are truly worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

Regarding Ferrari, I consider the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder Short Wheel Base/SWB probably the best buy out there now at 1.2M+, personal opinion. This car was selling much higher several years ago. I saw probably the finest example last weekend, unfortunately it's not for sale.

I'm sure this car is quite beautiful.. and it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it...

Regrding multi owner specialty cars.. I been following the Ferrari and other exotic market since I been a kid.. (I wish to buy one someday) Statistically, when you look at Ferrari's that change hands frequently, they are:

a) bought by an affluent owner who knows nothing about Ferrari's and is disillusioned with the car and dumps it.

b) brokers and quick scam guys who put their names on waiting lists for upcoming rare and new models, flipping it for a quick profit ala 360 Modena, and 360 spyder..

c) owners of older classic rare Ferrari's where the prices can fluctuate 50% in a span of 5 yrs due to prevailing market conditions, and thus profiting from it.

d) owners who own many Ferrari's and trade and sell their cars on a whim and never drive it..

No, disrespect to the 93 M5 owner, I'm sure it's beautiful.. but that is usually the case of multi owned cars...

Steve:

I saw this coming when I saw that you had posted this yesterday. Since we have been in contact recently I thought that I would support your position regarding this car.

I was referred to this car sometime last year by several people. One of which had seen the car and spoke to it's literal perfect condition. I did not look at it as I'm sure that I would have bought it. This is definitely one of the finest examples of a stock E34 M5 out there. The fact that it is a rare color combination also adds to it's value. These cars are worth what someone is willing to pay for them, regardless of any "book" prices. If you are looking for a bargain this is not the car, if you are looking for a future classic this could be the car. Everything is truly relative, depending on what one is looking for.

Regarding three owners and such low mileage. Take a look at collectors of Ferrari's and other exotic's. They are rarely driven and can change ownership several times in a couple of thousand miles.

I'm sure that whoever buys the car will appreciate it for what it is.

Hi Gang,

The sad day has arrvived. I am selling my Garage queen. It is a US 1993 M5 in Avus Blue with the Silver Gray Interior. I truly beleive this car is as close to new as you are likely to find for this year car at this point in
time.

There is nothing to disclose. No accidents, paintwork, dents, dings, or scratches.

Owned by 3 AR owners. Car currently has less than 28k miles. I spent over a year looking for it. I am only selling it as I have the opportunity to get a
new M3 and I already have 4 cars, so this is the one that has to go, I can only have one garage queen.

I have the car listed on classifieds2000 at

http://www.classifieds2000.com/cgi-cls/ad.exe?P1+C14+R1160158

I have a some additional digital photos I can send to you if interested.

Please contact me off line and I can discuss with you.
