Inspections are also more expensive, due to the use of more expensive oil, and the fact that the checking of the valve timing (inspection II?) is quite labour intensive. As long as you don't break any M5 specific parts you're allright. I asked for replacement adjustable rear shocks and was quoted the equivalent of 500$, each. That's excluding labour. I used to have a 525i, and my M5 uses just a drop more fuel, too. On the other hand, you should look at it this way: this car offers performance in the Ferrari / Porsche categorie, and in that light maintenance is positively cheap. Ask a quote for a new door for your 355 and prepare for a shock.

I have a 90 535i for awhile now, been thinking of upgrading to a E34 M5, can owners tell me how much more in maint. should I expect? Do they cost more for inspection 1 and 2?
