The head of the S38B36 is a ZERO TOLERANCE HEAD. This means that it is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE MACHINED. This does not mean that it cannot. If your head is warped try to have it straightened first. If the other head is POSITIVELY straight and TRUE, BUY IT NOW. They are very hard to come by. I only know becauseI had to buy one 2 years ago (I bought my car at a great price because the previous owner could not afford to fix it). The dealer wants $7500.00 for the bare head. The (original) head on my car had been machined below tolerance and therfore the previous owner drove 1000 miles before it overheated and warped AGAIN. All of this is documented from the repair bills from HIS local dealer(they did the work). I bought the car and had it fixed correctly, and have never had a problem since. I have since heard of a way to fix a head that is below spec. It involves a metal gasket cut to act as a shim. John Robinson was the creator of this repair and I may try this in the near future so I can finally have a spare head and not a fancy paperweight.
