From speaking to having a couple of tech look at my car, they thing that some of the surface of my clutch has desintegrated, causing the car to shudder the way it is. It still has the power to kickout second, so nothing seems to be wrong with the engine - now I just need to figure out how to change the clutch out myself.

535ia had the same symptoms - awful shaking and loss of power (but still able to do 70 on the highway without problems)
Turned out it was flattened lobes on the camshaft. Thing is still at the dealer, should be done friday. Hope that's not your problem
