If you want a 4 door sports car, get the M5. It has many upgrades over the 540i. The downside is the M5 will cost more to service and major problems are very expensive. If you enjoy rowing through the gears and keeping the revs above 4000 for spirited driving, the M5 is for you.

If you choose the 540i, make sure it has been upgraded to the Alusil engine block.
