I moved from Europe a few years back and last year I imported my 560 SEC Benz. I am now thinking seriously of bringing over here my 1993 M5 touring which I bought from a friend in Rome for $17,000 last year. My experience with my 560 was that you need to choose the right company to do the whole thing. Thera are many: some knowledgable some not. The cost is roughly $6/7,000 including both EPA and all parts. The list is long you can find it at:wallacelab.com (speedometer, buzzers, door bars, switches, door locks lights ,bumpers [though I did not have to change them on my 560 and I do not think you need to change them on M5 either just insert the side lights which is easy]brake light, and finally the necessary mods to the cats. I did this in California which is very strict but my car passed after a few tries and the guys who did it only charged me $ 3,000 for EPA. The car is running perfectly is totally legal. Yes it is rather costly but theese are the rules and anyway I paid such a good price for it that it is still worth it I believe I do not want to contradict anyone neither do I want to initiate a war of words: I just wish to share my experience with anyone who is interested. Ciao Jaime
