Speed sensitive steering? (archive)

After the help from Bruno Lafosse and myslef, I was able to repair
the leaking steering gearbox I had that prevented me from having
power steering and a load leveling suspension. After rebuilding
mine, I was unable to determine how the gearbox/pump can be speed
sensitive. Since everything is running constantly on a belt that
isn't connected to any kind of clutch or something that would reduce
the amount of pumping power to system, how is it done? I also
noticed that the gearbox Bruno sent me off of his 525i had an
electrical connector that mine did not have.

PS - For those who have thought of possibly replacing their steering
gearbox with one from another 5 series since the M5 one is so
expensive, it won't work. Besides using different ratios for the
steering, the spline that connects to the pitman arm is about 1/8"
bigger on the M5 box than the others. It was still worth a try
though.
