With the damper valve disabled, the intake performs only as a high flow/high rpm design like the E28 M5 engine. Opening the valve increases the plenum volume to aid cylinder filling at lower rpms, hence the major boost in torque.
Based on the graph, I think I could get some more performance if the valve closed 300-500 rpm higher, essentially filling the "dip" at 4200 rpm. Does anybody know if Dinan re-maps the valve actuation??

What is the intake damper?
I had some baseline pulls done today (Davenport Racing, Calgary). It's really amazing how much noise comes from under the hood at 7000rpm!
We printed the results from one normal and one with the intake damper disabled. Forgive the crude picture post - the mechanic didn't know how to save the file to disc. Notice the substantial secondary torque peak when the damper cycles. Horsepower is virtually unchanged though.
The car is bone stock and has 110,000km (68,350 miles for the metrically challenged).
What's next? Maybe a Dinan chip and sprocket...
