buying an e34 525i (archive)

I'm having a tough time finding a decent source of info on these cars. Any words of wisdom?

How terrible is the acceleration? I recently drove a 1999 323i that wasn't a barnburner, but really entertaining. Should I be expecting that same level of performance from the 525i? Am I dreaming?
