M5 compared to 540i and other stuff (archive)

How does an E34 M5 compare to a newer model 540i? 0-60, 1/4 mile, top speed, etc.
Even though the 540 isn't an M it is rather respectable. . . isn't it?

On another note. . .
Besides Cam sprocket and chip (which stole power in regards to an E30 M3, in my case), are there any other performance upgrades? I was thinking a Chip with perhaps larger flow injectors might do something. Anyone try a porting and polishing? Extrudehone? Is it possible to hit 350hp without a stroker?

One more thing. . .
The Previous owner of my car created a "custom" and unique suspension setup. . .I'm not sure if I'm going to like it. What is the consensus for the best all around suspension setup for an E34 M5? I believe I have bilsteins, with Eibach rear springs, and 180 pound front springs which are custom, stock sway bar setup, and camber plates from an E30 M3 *anyone else heard of doing this, using E30 Camber plates?*

Thanks for any advise and feedback.

Best,

John K
