Hi Steve,

I have the exact same problem on my 1991 M5. My understanding is switching to 535 shocks is cheaper and will also provide better handling. Plus you won't have to deal with the whole system which will continue to fail as the car get older. Bavauto sells an elimination kit for $154.00. However, I saw a list of hardware you can purchase from the dealer, and will do the same, but cheaper. The problem is I don't have instructions on how to install it. I was going to post a message on this board when I am ready to change the shocks out. My issue is deciding which shocks brand of shocks. I am torn between the new Bilstein touring or Boge. I don't want a stiff ride, the Bilstein sport will get.

I am also changing out all the springs and front shocks.

My M5 is a '91 with 117K miles - new to me and I love it, but it seems to have an abnormally bouncy ride, even for a performance car. My tech says the accumulators are probably the culprit.

He is suggesting that I put 535i Shock assemblies with Bilstein cartridges in place of my self-leveling suspension. He says he can disconnect the relay and plug lines so everything is still there if I ever want it back to original, everything else is now. Supposedly I get a better ride and handling. Cost estimated at $500-$700 depending on how much we pay for parts.

Anybody done this? Thoughts?
