Power steering gearbox is shot (archive)

I discovered over the past few weeks that my power steering gearbox is shot. It is leaking like a cive. What could have been the cause of this? Since that has gone out...has the self-leveing (LAD or whatever it's called) gone out too?
My dealer wants $1850 to fix it. That I can not afford. They want $1495 for the part alone! I've decided to go a different route. I can have it rebuilt for $225 by a place that specializes in rebuilding steering gearboxes. It is something like "Harry's" in Michigan. I talked with them and they have done rebuilt M5 specific power steering gearboxes before.
My problem is that no repair shop will do the repair and wait the necessary 5 days or so turn around time to ship the part, have it rebuilt using factory BMW seals and nickel plating the gears and having it sent back and re-installed. So now my only option seems to be to find a used one.
I have considered pulling the gearbox and reinstalling it myself...but I think it is too much for me to tackle. I have no experience doing anything like that.

Anyone know where I can find a new or used M5 E34 power steering gearbox?
Please let me know ASAP.
If you have any other ideas as to what I should do please feel free to send them my way.
Thanks
Jay Wilkins
