Speedometer question (archive)

I have a stock E34... was able to pick up a speedometer (just the unit that plugs in to the cluster) from an M5 with the 300 KPH top reading. Would like to plug it into my cluster. Anyone know if the sender is the same and if that will create any problem with OBC, or anything else I haven't thought of.
