If you are here in Chicago then you have to worry less because the streets are plowed very well. Getting around town is mainly by driver skills rather than car abilities. Even a good set of all-seasons will work well. I put on Dunlop SP5000s with 16in rims on my car and they got me through. If I had to do it again, I would probably find a tire with less focus on performance and a little better grip in the snow. I also have an open differential so a limmited slip could have probably made a huge difference.

You can get snows, but a good set of all-season will work well here in Chicago.

P.S.
By the way, one of my friend's dad didn't get re-elected because he didn't have a good program for plowing the streets. Back then and now, if the streets don't get plowed, the city stops moving.
