Yes, the pricing in Europe for these cars does appear to be very attractive. A very good friend of mine imports the 3.8L cars and they are around 30k, give or take, landed in the US. Reasons for not importing them wholesale are:

1. Costs USD 10k to federalize and ship them.
2. Maintenance and mileage histories typically unknown, specially since the speedo is swapped out.
3. Salt and snow corrosion that we do not have in the southern US.

Oh my good do you americans have to pay that much for a bimmer,you can get a 1992 3,8litre 340hp M5 in good condition in germany for $8-10k.
i live in sweden and i purchased mine -92 M5 3,8 400nm 340hp for 12000$ fully equipped 118000km.
it would be cheaper for you to get one from europe,if there isnīt some stupid rules that says that you canīt get the 3,8
