Thanks. One more question, how did they get 3.6 liters from a displacement of 3,535? Technically, wouldn't having a 3,535cc displacement make it a 3.5L? I'm assuming this was a marketing thing done by BMW. And, confirming the E34 M5 only had 3 short years of production (1991-1993)!?

Hang out in this board; you will find lots of good info.
US-version M5 1991-1993 has 311hp from 3.6 liters. M5 continued in europe with 3.8 liter and 340hp from 1993(?) to 1995. Last two years of E34 M5 were not sold in US thus causing the confusion.
Watch for proper maintainance by previous owner.
Engine is expensive to fix, but very reliable. Weak points (my opinion): transmission, self-leveling rear suspension (check shocks for leaking), de-laminating of vinyl on door armrests, sudden death of waterpump. Mine has been great (better and cheaper to maintain than wife's Volvo!). Engine sound is worth the price alone. Enjoy!
