Do not install a K&N Air intake on the S38 engine (archive)

A while back someone claimed that a K&N air air intake system with heat shield increased power.Seems it only increases noise!

Carl Nelson of La Jolla Independent did a dyno test on a motor that was being transplanted into a 3.0CS chassis.

What he found was that any single alteration of the stock airbox and intake parts would lose power. Note the "velocity stack" on the front of your M5's
airbox... Carl specifically made the point that even putting a fingertip in that lip would make the car drop 5hp.

Leave the M5 airbox alone, run a stock paper filter.
