I have heard that the K/N is not a very good filter. A lot of particles make their way through the filter and enter the engine. The performance gains aren't significant, kind of like with an exhaust. However, you must make up your own mind.

The airbox that was designed for the M5 has a "ram-air" effect. Adding a cone k/n filter elilminates this effect. The added trouble with heat (hot air) can further degrate performance.

Use the stock airbox and use a stock filter or a BMC filter. They are OE equipment for Ferrari and Team Rosso Ferrari. I change filters once every year. Spending $40 for a filter is better than having a engine problem. You can get them from BMP.
