I installed them in my 94 530i which has sports seats identical to the ones in the M5.
As James mentioned, you need the two armrests plus a set with the mounting brackets. Price per armrest (leather) around $300, mounting kit around $20.
Installation is straightforward and can be done in 1.5 hours.
Very comfortable.

Here is the real deal. I am 100% sure adding center arm rests can be done.

BMW sells a special order installation kit and you order the armrests as seperate pieces.

I had ordered these items for my 93 M5 and never got around to installing them.

I have since sold the car and returned the parts at a hefty 25% restocking fee (cost for the parts was like $700), but again, I am 100% sure it can be done, it will just take a little digging.

The arm rests are the same ones used on non sport seats.

I have noticed that the regular 5 series cars have fold down armrests attached to the side of the seat, and I wanted to know if anyone has attempted/suceeded to made this modification to our style of seats. I would love to be able to have this addition!
