Hello,
I am a true believer in good snow tires. Yeah, I agree that the Blizzaks handle bad in the wet and dry, but man do they get you out of any jams. In the Winter, I just deal with the fact that I can't apex every exit ramp the way I would in the summer. Especially if I am driving an M5.. I would obviously never drive my M5 in the snow (or rain for that matter). I do own a 535iA. That car will be getting the snow tires. I normally run 225/50/16 tires in the summer. For the snow tires, I run a 185/75/14!!! I know, Spongy feel... But they are tall, lots of side wall protection, very narrow and cheap! I ran this size on my Audi's and was astonished. This size on my BMW combined with the LSD rear should keep me moving.

Option 2 "The Subaru"

For the money it costs to buy a set of wheels and tires, you might want to look into a 1981-1988 Subaru GL 4wd. Wagon, Sedan, Coupe, Brat. These are unstoppable in the snow, have great ground clearance, and will NEVER get stuck. Go with a 4 or 5 speed. The Hi-Low transfer cases are the best. Best of all, you can find one for $900 and sell it at the end of winter for $900.
