Car runs a lot smoother and I noticed a significant gain in HP. If you look at the "ram air" on the stock filter, you will notice that its really not all that effective since the air is being deflected by the front lights... Its really not as effective as you guys may thing.
With the cone filter, i immediately noticed an increase in throttle response. I would consider myself somewhat critical in the mods department, but from what ive gained, I would definitely do this mod again...
Not to mention the issue concerning a finger in front of the velocity stack is the biggest crock ive heard... Imagine trying to calculate 5hp with a 18% drive train loss... That would be something so insignificant that you wouldnt even be able to determine wether you actually lose hp or gain hp... Then again, if it was rear wheel HP, that would be a different story, but its HIGHLY unlikely that a finger in front of the velocity stack on that little air box is going to make much of a difference considering the light fixture is in front of the velocity stack...
In anycase, dont mean to start a controvercial tread, but from what i gather and from what ive noticed, I think the cone air filter was definitely an improvement over stock, and if there is by any chance a loss in horsepower, you definitely do not notice it, but rather, it feels like an increase in power and definitely a much smoother running car... not to mention intoxicating engine sound...
It is, of course, your call...
