A '91-93 Carrera is no faster than an E34 M5, though it will handle better. I was behind a HORRIBLE driver in a C2 at a drivers school. He of course wouldn't let me by and I had to drag race the guy up the straight. We were dead even on the straight, I was way faster in the corners as I actually drove on the line rather than the other side of the track. A good driver in a modded M5 could keep up with an average 993 but probably not with equal drivers. However, if you think BMW parts, and even //M parts are expensive, go price some Porsche stuff. Ouch.

91 M5

P.S. The M5 is STILL fast, even today. You have to spend at least $50k for a comparable 4 door in terms of performance.

Any Porsche 911 (964 body till most recent) should have no problem against a stock E34 M5, especially through the corners driven by 2 competent drivers...

A 911 has a better hp/weight ratio, compared to a E-34 M5. Great car, no doubt and not many 4 dr cars can out run it, but it is not that fast anymore compared to the newer machines out there!!!. I know, I drive them on the track and instruct folks that have them all.
