bmw m-mirrors vs. after market mirrors ? (archive)

any info on the differnce between bmw m-mirrors and aftermarket m-mirros , besides a cost of $500. a guy i know bought from bmp design and he replaced them 2x cause each time he tightened them the plastic piece cracked. he mentioned that he shelled out $1000 for the bmw ones which i guess have metal inserts ? anyone have this problem, if not, anyone satisfied with their aftermarket mirrors ?
