By far the most important and costly part of an M5 is the transmission and engine. Have a full leakdown/compression test of the engine and an evaluation of the transmission. Service records will be indicative of the condition also.
Have the same mechanic check for leaks at all engine and tranmssion seals, check the guibos, ujoints and steering box. The steering box is surely worn unless it has been replaced. That is okay as it is typical but it is not a cheap fix.

Hi what should I be aware of? The asking price is $14,900. Factory engine replaced @ 42k. 1 owner, says seats are worn, all stock, no autocross, is this too many miles? I currently own a '90 535 and a '73 2002 that both are extremely reliable. I do not want to open a can of worms...any help is appreciated.
