Strange Noise??? (archive)

I have a '90 535i. Last two days, I noticed that when I push my clutch down, in neutral, my engine makes a hollow noise. It goes away after releasing the clutch. This noise persists in first two gears when clutch pedal is pressed. After going up to the third gear, the engine sounds normal. Can somebody tell me what is happenning to my clutch or engine?
