This message periodically pops up in my message center for my 91 M5.

What does this mean?

You can assume you have a bad brake light or the wrong brake light bulbs.
Sometimes a bulb filement will open and when it is vibrated it will stick back together when the bulb is powered. This can happen a number of times.
If the bulbs are too low a wattage thay can trigger the bulb check circuit.
