i have a 93 M5. The steering seems to get more and more out of control. It has alot of (play ? ) . Please help, What can I do to get some control back.

thanks
Randy

Randy,
Four items must be investigated.

1) 4 Wheel alignment: to include rear wheel tracking.

2) Steering wheel alignment: must be centered when driving straight. The steering gear is built to be tight at the center and maybe 11-1 o'clock.

3) Suspension bushing condition: to include rear sub frame, trailing arms, pitman arms, along with the front end stuff such as the idler arm, etc.

4) Steering gear back-lash: an adjustment screw and lock nut on the top of the steering box is provided for back-lash. This adjustment must be done with the knowledge of the proper steering gear tightness(in-oz torque through the gears center position). Over tensioning on the adjustment will cause the steering gear to wear out quickly.
