I get an occasional grind going into third gear but only at low rpm. Given the mileage, I won't do a $3k transmission unless I need to. It is a strange symptom and most people don't think it makes sense. It does not happen at high rpm which you think it would if it was the synchros.

Just make sure you get the car checked out before you buy, really put it through its paces and make sure you always let the oil temp come to 140+ before you go over 3500rpm or go to full throttle. More importantly, ask if the previous owner observed this rule.
