ESD Regelt **** Help please **** (archive)

I have a E34 - 525i, 1995 vintage with about 136,000 Km on the clock. Every now and again (few hours/days/weeks) the computer produces the following messages in sequence. They then continue endlesly until they feel like lurking somewhere else until next time (few hours/days/weeks).

"ESD Regelt"
"BRAKE LT CIRCUIT" (This is NOT the brake light bulb msg)
"OWNERS HANDBOOK"

The Owners Handbook says nothing about ESD Regelt. The best I get from BMW is that it appears to be the computer going back into German and while they have seen it before, have no resolution to the problem.

As it goes anyway from time to time, this sounds like a big bucks guessing game to me. I have carefully examined (and cleaned) all the wiring connectors, bulb holders, plug fittings of the electronic plug-in units I can find but
without any luck. I was told to review and replace all bulbs exactly to spec. which seemed to help for a while.

Ok. There it is. I hope you find it interesting enough to give me some advice. (Im a bit of a "gumby" when it comes to electronics but am keen to pass on the info. to those who "care for my baby" so that together we can fix this issue).

If this question looks a little familiar, it was asked in November 2000, but no resolution posted.
