Bob:

My second hand experience has been that ATF is the way to go. Some people report synchro crunching with Redline that was cured with ATF. If it works and BMW recommends it and you have no issues stay with ATF.

Hi all,
What’s the current thinking on Redline MTL vice ATF in the M5 gearbox? Redline says that MTL is suitable for ATF applications but BMW says use ATF. My driving style is pretty conservative with the car rarely going over 80mph. I really just want to preserve the smooth shifting tranny that I currently enjoy.
With regard to Dinan. Is anyone using the Dinan cam gear and can you tell me your impressions of it what Chip (stock, Dinan, JimC, D'Sylva) you are using? I am interested, especially if it noticeably improves the midrange torque.
Thanks,
Bob

Thanks Neal,
I will stick with the ATF. Any suggestions on increasing midrange torque? I have thought about a Dinan cam gear and/or replacing the 93 rear-end with one from a 91. I installed a Fahey cam gear in a M635 that seemed to help a bit but it retarded the exhaust cam timeing slightly while the Dinan advances it. I know you have allot of experience with the cars and was hoping you could offer some hints.
