If I blow my E34 M5 engine up then I will probably look for a 4.4L V8 from a later E39 540i or 740i and drop one of those in, I figure the cost will be substantially lower plus some tweaks like exhaust and chip plus the 3.91 rear end of the M5 will make a screamer...It might seem like sacraledge and it would be a last resort but better than dumping the car for parts. My dealer says a new engine would be around $14000 USD.

has anyone done this before or know of any info?
