Thanks Gary,
So is the "performance" Dinan Cam Gear just the Stock Euro 3.8 Cam gear? If so there must be some other sources, like the dealer for instance. Also, have you installed and if so what was your impression?

Happy New Year,
Bob

The 3.8 liter gears increase cam overlap and improve mid range torque. The downside is they make the engine more sensitive to exhaust backpressure. The result is a loss of power at the extreme high end when exhaust backpressure increases.

Gary Derian

Hi all,
What’s the current thinking on Redline MTL vice ATF in the M5 gearbox? Redline says that MTL is suitable for ATF applications but BMW says use ATF. My driving style is pretty conservative with the car rarely going over 80mph. I really just want to preserve the smooth shifting tranny that I currently enjoy.
With regard to Dinan. Is anyone using the Dinan cam gear and can you tell me your impressions of it what Chip (stock, Dinan, JimC, D'Sylva) you are using? I am interested, especially if it noticeably improves the midrange torque.
Thanks,
Bob
