Greetings from the E39 board,

I'm just lurking here as I do occasionally. The M5 had the 3.91 up to 7/91 and the 3.73 thereafter. That was in the US only. Everywhere else got the 3.91 for the entire production span. The 3.8L M5s had the 3.71 up to 6/94 and the 3.23 thereafter (all markets). This information was gathered from my ETK.
