What I have heard second-hand is:
1. BMW glass fits perfectly, but is soft and gets pitted with hi-speed driving. My E30s are like this.
2. PPG glass does not fit that well, but well enough for all but the most finicky. It is harder, cheaper and does not pit as much.
Note that PPG is now the paint supplier to the BMW Manuf Facility in SC, so it is by no means a 'shabby' outfit.
Not sure about the insurance. I know my policy has it under comprehensive and I have to pay the deductible, but I also know that many states have zero deductible for glass and some have zero or less if it breaks at home. You'd have to ask your agent.

I am sure this has been covered, but I cannot seem to use the Archives. I have a "crack" in my windshield and need a replacement. I am sure that BMW wants a big cash for a new one, so what are some good aftermarket suppliers? I think I have heard that PPG makes glass for these cars. Or do I look for Sigla glass? Any chance my Farmers policy will help out?
