Well, one thing I have noticed with the M5's is they take some getting used to. It took both me and my brother a while to get used to the way the M5's drive... My brother can usually adjust to new cars very quickly, but the M5 really did take him a while. I dont think that they (the car magazines) would have the cars for a long enough period of time to be able to drive an M5 the way it should be.. Maybe I'm wrong....

I know my brother ran against a 2001 540i with 2 people in his car (him and myself) while the 540i only had a driver. Although they took off at the same time my brother stood ahead of the 540i the entire time (although the distance between the cars varied according to the powerbands). The 540i's over here are rated at 5.9sec 0-60 for the automatic, but the owner claimed 5.7sec (maybe from a previous track run)
