It is suppose to slide up, but it jams in the off/lower position. In order to unjam it, I must gentle push on the plastic piece that the switch rides on to slide it up to the on position.

Do you mean push it in like a button???? Because if that is the case, you only have to push it up, so that it slides to the on position...

If this is not what you meant, then I don't think I know of a fix for your problem
