Let me warn well in advance of the costs of running an M5.

Those people who run these cars up to 200k (and I'm on an M5-only list and don't know a single one with that mileage, which does not mean they do not exist, of course) do so with continuous maintenance.

There may be the odd exception, but by and large the V8 is less maintenance.

Are you a Hyundai owner? The E34 8cylinder cars are troublesome, but the E34 M5 is one of the best, if not the best, car BMW ever built. Fast as heck and ultra reliable. I have friends with M5s and have 200k on them and run them very hard and they keep on going even stronger.!!
