Factory vs Replica M Parallel Wheels (archive)

I'm thinking about replacing the stock wheels on a 95 540 with the 18" M Parallel wheels. Replicas seem to go for between 1100 and 1500. Looks like the original BMW wheels can be had for about 2000.

Anyone have thoughts on differences between factory and replica wheels and whether it's worth the extra 500-800 to get the factory wheels? I've heard stories of the finish not lasting on the Replica wheels or that the alloy used in the replicas is not as strong as what's used in the factory wheels.

Thoughts?
