4 months ago I purchased a Sony cd player/radio to replace the factory deck that wasn't working. Best Buy installed the deck with no problems and it worked great for about a month. All of the sudden the radio reception went out both FM and AM, except for 2 local FM stations. I went back to Best Buy thinking some wires came loose or something and had them check the deck out. They verified that everything was ok and suggested I have the soddering points for the antenna in the glass checked out. These were all ok. It turns out the antenna amp that is on the drivers side pillar where the light is at in the back was bad. I verified this by swaping my antenna amp out with one from my brothers 325is. The radio reception was back.(Note: I didn't start the car just turned the key so the radio would come on). So I ordered the part from a salvage yard company in TN because the part was $200 plus at dealers and other places all over the country. This place only charged me $75. So anyway the part gets here today and I put it in. Again, I turn the key just so the radio comes on and the reception was perfect no problems for 2 or 3 minutes. I was all excited to finally have radio reception! I got everything put back together and then started the car to run some errands and the reception was just like before, only the two local radio stations. I was soooo pissed. My thoughts are that the cd deck is blowing the antenna amp when the car is started. I checked all the fuses and they were ok. Any thoughts on what could be causing the antenna amp to stop working? What responsibility should Best Buy have if it is the deck that is causing the problem? Any other things I should check out? Thanks for any help you can give me.
