I know this sounds like a weird question, but my black on black 1991 E34 M5 is VERY dark at night, especially with tinted windows. Therefore, it is hard to see anything down in the console without having to flick on the map lights. I have noticed that ALL 5 and 7 series since 1995-96 have that orange glow “ambience” or “mood” light centered right above the center console, which shines down just enough to illuminate the area around the a/c controls and the stick shift. It would be VERY nice to have that kind of illumination in my car because of the black interior. I often set my phone, palm pilot, etc… in those pockets around the shift knob and have to feel around to find them. If it weren’t for the lighted shifter, I’d really be screwed!!!!!!!

My question is this: Although this is purely an aesthetic customization, have any of you retrofit that light system? If not, do you think it would be possible to do it?

Thanks in advance for any help
