blipped the trottle while downshifting - surprise, rpms rocketed! put it in gear and the car now accelerates by itself! pushed in the clutch and engine shot up to 6K so I shut off the ignition.

popped the bonnet (I like the sound of that better than hood) and surveyed the throttle cable area. Eureka, the cruise control cable has a short guide plastic tube that got stuck because it did not slide into a larger diameter "tube/hole/sleeve" mounted on the trottle plate.

I re-centered the small guide back into the larger "hole" and that allowed the throttle to close as normal. Otherwise, it was equivalent to having the cruise control set to a certain trotttle opening.

Anyone have a solution? I'm gonna find a plastic tube about 1.5 inches long to go around the existing 0.5 inch tube; so that it will always be 'guided' into the larger hole. This tube is too short and could easily bind again.

I know a photo would explain all this much better, but the digital is currently out of town. will post a photo next week.

mike
